3 Birches Way is a weekly-ish newsletter where I write essays about
Community, Curiosity & Creativity. I also share stories of everyday people making
positive differences in their communities around the world and resources to inspire
you to fold a new idea into your life and maybe make a difference wherever you
live.
I realize that Community, Curiosity & Creativity could encompass almost
anything, so I’ll give you an idea of some of the ways I’ll explore them below.
This way, you’ll know what kinds of ideas and inspirations you might find here.
Think of 3 Birches Way as a series of trails through a lush old-growth forest full of
interwoven communities and symbiotic relationships.
This 3 Birches Way path encompasses essays about big-picture issues like:
• Ways the reality of the American Dream has gone awry for so many and how we can
heal our torn social fabric for the best country for all of us.
• Explore how our aspirations for isolating amounts of money, power,
influence, and celebrity are misplaced and people working to heal our communities
and create an American Dream that encompasses everyone.
• How we all benefit from everyone having their basic needs met so we can all
make our unique contributions to society.
• People working toward corporate transparency, consumer rights, and more ethical
business practices. We can vote with our dollars and feet every day.
• The power of mediation, conflict resolution, and non-violent communication.
I’m always seeking ways to make my life a little better, and to make my unique
contributions (however small) to the world, and would love to inspire you to make
some of yours. On this trail you’ll find essays about things like:
• My odyssey to make sense of my family legacy and ancestors through relatives,
genealogy, newspaper archives, and visiting old family addresses in New York
City and Italy.
• My lifelong love of understanding how everything works: myself, other people,
the New York suburb where I grew up, our society, and world history, figures, and
philosophy has served me well in so many ways.
• I also love to explore patterns and life cycles, whether in human nature and
cultures, art/architecture, or the visual beauty of symbiotic relationships that
lichens, mosses, and fungi have with rocks and trees.
• My curiosity has been my best asset in my healing journey, learning to love
myself and having fun creating art in different mediums.
This trailhead leads to explorations of subjects like:
• How much writing and art have threaded through and enhanced my life,
sometimes in unexpected, lovely ways.
• Creative problem-solving is one of my superpowers, and I’ll share what I’ve
learned and figured out as well as stories of everyday people making positive
differences in their communities around the world.
• I’m also someone who loves to share resources and ideas that you may want to
adopt to make your life a little better or to make a difference in your community.
